To commemorate the Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Citizens who fell in the Great War of 1914-1919, and also of 1070 Officers and men of H.M.S. Bulwark and H.M.S. Princess Irene, lost in Sheerness Harbour by internal explosion on Nov 26 1914 and May 27 1915.
Jan - I have only just read your queries. I think the cemetry that you speak of is probably the cemetry at The Halfway. I worked there on a temp basis when a student in the 1960s! Did you ever get the answers to your other queries? If not feel free to write to me and I will try and find some answers for you. I live just a little way from Sheppey these days. Derek

Thanks for your site Trevor - it has shown me the place my grandfather died defending in 1916 and I really appreciate it.
Being cheeky, I wonder if you have any idea of how I could obtain a list of names on the War Memorial to see if his name is on it? It's rather difficult from way over here in sunny Oz!
His name was Harry Feeney, he was buried on November 4 and is in a cemetery somewhere between Sheerness and Queniborough. I think there was an air raid there on October 28 so possibly this has something to do with his death. I've tried to contact the Times Guardian re their archives but so far they haven't answered.
Not to worry if you don't know the answer to my question but again, thank you so much for the beautiful photographs.
Kind regards from sunny Oz and
Jan Thomas
