UC5 Submarine 1

UC-5 ran aground while on patrol 27 April 1916 at 5159N 138E / 51.983N 1.633E / 51.983; 1.633Coordinates: 5159N 138E / 51.983N 1.633E / 51.983; 1.633 and was scuttled. Her crew were captured by HMS Firedrake and the submarine was displayed at Temple Pier on the Thames river and, later, in New York for propaganda purposes.

The photo of UC5 is taken at Royal William Yard, Plymouth, Devon. I have a very similar postcard, but Union Jack is in slack wind and behind the flag post.
