There was a Public House called the 'Shipwright Arms' on the site of Bar one.

The first records of it that I have found is in 1826/1827, it then changed its name in 1881 to 'Magdala Tavern' and reverted back to 'Shipwright Arms' in 1882 until 1891 which was last recorded I have found of it being called the 'Shipwright Arms' , it was being ran by a Elizabeth Pike in 1891. The 1901 directory is the first record I found of a 'Railway Hotel' on this site, this is one of the many old name for what became Bar One before its closer in the early 2000's.

So the 'Shipwrights Arms' was probably demolished between 1891 and 1901 and replaced by the present buildings..

Hope this is of some help

Also there is a photo on Kent History Forum on a subject called 'shopping in Sheerness back then', it is picture 1.

Hi, does anyone know if this is was ever called the "Shipwrights Arms', Mile Town? If so, my relatives ran it in 1888.
Thanks
Mick
