From David Watts (The Glass Circle, London - see www.glasscircle.org)
Congrats on your web site. I am setting up a general web site - Glassmaking in London - aiming to include reference to all glassmaking activities in our city, beginning with the Romans. One section is aimed at listing, with a few details if available, all the later factories including Canning Town. However, there is much I do not know about the factory; perhaps; you can help.
1. Do you have a pic of the outside of the factory?
2. Can you state exactly where the factory was located in Canning Town, i.e.by reference to Google Earth?
3. I know it started in 1860; when did it close.
4. Did it make anything else besides bottles?
5. Approx number of workers?
Finally, may I use a detail from the pic entitle "Making bottles" and give a Link to your web site.
Many thanks
David Watts.
PS, as an afterthought, do you know anything about the United Glass Bottle factory that was set up just across where the Dome now is. I gather it was built in 1923.
