Jack in the pulpit (thanks Christian)
I'm not sure how rare these things really are but I tromp arround the woods a lot and have only seen a couple in several years. Never have I seen one in this setting. I think durring the flooding of a few weeks ago this poor thing thought it was planting itself along side a nice river (now at least a hundred feet back from it).
Anyway after getting mud all over my pants and shirt getting this shot and enduring the rest of the day in the office looking like a ditch digger I thought it would be a good PAD entry.

Well worth the dry cleaning bill! Really like the light and shadow.

I went now to the end of list of comments and see that Christian gave a link to a site where one can see this evolution. So, my first comment went somewhat too fast. Anyway, nice shot.

Nice shot Larry, this is the early state of Arisaema triphyllum. When they open there is a stem with a kind of grape of red berries coming out, they grow in wet places, also here in our woods. Was certainly worth to get somewhat dirty to take this picture.

As a regular woods tromper myself I can say this... When I first started tromping I didn't know about Jack-in-the-pulpits but once I started tromping with camera as well I started to notice more. Now I am good for several of these in a season, but I certainly wouldn't call them common. Aren't they great looking? You got a nice shot of this one.
