A fragment of 1970 PCT history as seen in 2008

This three inch piece of wood is one of Eric Ryback's two tarp sticks seen in his 1971 book, The High Adventure of Eric Ryback, which documented his great 1970 PCT adventure. His campsite is in the Marble Mtns on Big Ridge, and in my backyard. It was six inches long in 2003 when I first saw it. I have personally witnessed and honored the ultimate destiny of this piece of Eric's historical campsite fade into the legend and back to nature.
