“A tree endowed with the arms and soul of a child, a wooden embrace, a gesture of love mediated or rendered valuable by a tree; the profile of a horse at dusk; the unimagined hues of autumn leafage; details of harmonious architecture. The portraits of nature breathe the spirit of the places and the local colour looms in every image.
The sacred spaces, old and new monasteries: architectural views, warm angles, associations that define the relationship with the vicinity, integrations, decoupages. The divine spark assumes the shape of a holy man, of a painted face, of the sky, water or polished stone.
The ruins emerge from the stillness and rigidity of history and are brought in man’s proximity, thus leading to an intimate reconciliation with the structures and with their past. The documentary value is enriched by distinctive perspectives, hues and shadows.
The release from the state of apparent or latent concealment is accomplished by establishing subtle connections between the subject and the surroundings and by choosing various depths of field: the photographer tells stories featuring lonesome stone beings from castles and palaces built in the old days.
The cognition is triggered by the search that enlivens the places with its human presence. The space is invested with new meanings and symbols as the spirit enters in a dialogue with the ruins, helped by children’s steps and glances that tame and soften the walls.
The compositions reveal the coherent union between the documentary component of architecture and the exterior, between the built element and nature.
The excursion in the intimacy of the relation with divinity speaks about assuming the sacrifice, about humility and joy, renouncement and ascent, lessons and grief, fall and faith.
The wounded or the uprooted churches, the historic buildings, the monuments, the imposing and void spaces of the bygone power, the essence and the natural material of the rural universe, the exponents of communist architecture are all drawn together by the pulse of the city, recreating an urban puzzle.
The variety of colours and textures is brought to life by the air that the people and the places are sharing; the seeker discovers the hues of nature, the age of the walls and of the history that lies inside them.”
