My Drenthen Moor Sheep

Here I will present photos of the very rare Dutch breed of Drenthen Moor Sheep.
This is the oldest breed in the Netherlands and the only one where Rams and Ewes are horned.
It goes back to the Middle Ages, but only since the 15th century they're being kept in big herds.
About 20 years ago this breed almost had disappeared, due to inbreeding other breeds and some
people thought the time had come to set up a preservation project. Today there are some 2500 true
bred species again and slowly we're getting there, out of the danger zone, thanks to a lot of
dedicated people. It's a beautiful sheep, hardened, demanding not too much care and rather selfsuporting.
My flock stays out in the field Summer and Winter, the lambs are born outside and I
hardly have to help them, most of the time they're just there when I come to look in the morning.
I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I do.

You can find more about my sheep at:

You can 'like' them, 'pin' them, 'twitter' them and even share them on your 'facebook' (F-like)
