Compression variations

This was a simple test to compare the various JPEG options. The file has been saved at JPEG with the slider setting in the Save For Web option in Photoshop Elements. The settings were Custom 100, Maximum 80, High 60, Custom 50, Medium 30, Low 10. I then repeated the test after first downsizing the images from the 6mp size of the D100 images of 3000x2000 to 1500x1000.

The purpose of this test was to compare the different settings to decide what size is sufficient for uploading the images to websites like Pbase for large size image viewing, to viewing small photos on webpages. I had previously printed 4 pictures from a similar test, at JPEG 100 and JPEG 50, then with each at 50%. All 4 files were printed to 8x10 on Sams Fuji Frontier 370. All 4 prints were IMPRESSIVELY sharp and indistinguishable from each other.

I have only left the lowest quality, smallest size to show that even low and small is quite adequate for web posting as well as printing to 8x10 and smaller prints.

Hope this helps.
