NEWS!!! House Bill 4238 - Increases the penalties for dog owners whose pets injure and kill. Failure to pen a vicious dog that gets loose and causes injury or death is now a Class 3 felony carrying a possible prison sentence of 2-5 years. Knowingly loosing a vicious dog is a Class 2 felony punishable by 3-7 years in prison. Filed Dec. 9, 2005, by Rep. Mike Boland (D-Moline). Passed the House 95-17, with two abstentions, on March 3. Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) voted yes. Passed the Senate 57-0 on March 30. Amended version passed the House 113-0 on April 4. Signed into law May 31 by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
House Bill 2946 - Prohibits convicted felons from owning vicious dogs that have not been sterilized or microchipped. Filed Feb. 22, 2005, by Rep. Tom Cross (R-Plainfield). Passed the House 108-5, with four abstentions, on April 14. Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) voted yes. Amended version passed the Senate 57-0 on March 28. Amended version passed the House 95-19 on April 7. Mautino voted no. Signed into law May 31 by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Jennifer, My wife and I, along with our two dog-children (Guinness and Kelly) are so sorry to hear of your and your family's loss. Marty looks like such a fun and loving dog, it is heart-breaking to read about his passing. I can barely begin to grasp your pain. Kelly and Guinness lost their older brother Brambles 9 months ago and we miss him so, my wife is only now beginning to come to grips with it (and he passed from natural causes). I found this site late, so I hope you were successful with Marty's Law. Guinness and Kelly are rescue dogs, and they won't be our last. Best wishes to you and your family. Marty will be loved always. IM VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT MARTY,UNFORTUNATLY SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO OWN PITTS SHOULDNT HAVE THEM.I MYSELF HAVE 2 THAT ARE VERY NICE DOGS. THEY ARE VERY GOOD WITH MY KIDS AND OTHER ANIMALS.MOST OF THEM ARE GOOD DOGS BUT ALOT OF DOGS(ANY BREED)HAVE BAD OWNERS AND THEY SHOULD BE AWARE OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN.MARTY LOOKS LIKE A VERY SWEET DOG AND IM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.........HE IS IN A GOOD PLACE LOOKING DOWN ON YOU.I KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO LOSE A LOVED PET.IM SURE YOU ARE IN HIS HEART FOREVER.GOD BLESS

I did not originally read the thread on the Oly forum, could tell that someones Pup was gone, and I often feel easier reading about dead people than I do someone's pet. It continued, however, and a while ago I entered. I am so sorry this all happened. What a horrible loss and such a terrible thing to witness. It's hard enough to lose a beloved pet but to lose it that way is just too awful to even imagine. My heart goes out to you.
