This is amazing. I am a Kupchella and it is amazing to see way back into 1913! Somday I hope to visit my relatives there.

Labas!! My name is Linas.My parents are immagrants from LIthuania. I love hearing stories from them concerning their lives before they came here to the United States. So much to learn from them.I could sit for hours and listen to them. But as it was for so many Europeans the World War II was devastating to so many. Including my parents and there respective families. My father told me of his fathers imprisonment and torture by the Russians... It was difficult to listen to and even harder to watch the great hurt and bitterness in my dads eyes as he remembered what happened so many years ago. He still sheds tears over what happened. It almost seems a dream to me,a very bad dream. At one time as my parents and I were talking about there experiences my father was getting very angry,not yelling but just in his eyes a bitterness surfaced that had been buried for so many years. My mother said to him " You still hate the Nazis". I was completly blown away by this remark from my mom.To think that the effects of the war still linger. I just cant understand how some people can deny what the Nazis did to so many . It in some way even effects me ,the brutality of the Nazis and the Russians of the time. I wanted to thank you for posting these beautiful images. Ive seen my families old images as well .They are very similar in ways. As I get older ,im now 42 years old, I am appreciating more and more what my parents did for me. This includes teaching me Lithuanian,which i am teaching my daughter !!! I can understand better now why they wanted to immerse me in the Lithuanian culture and not forget it. At one time my mom told me that the reason for teaching me the language and culture was that it was a way to fight the communists and there desire to destroy the people of Lithuania. Only now years later do I understand more of what she meant for us. I love her for that. I am so proud of my heritage and love Lithuania so very much. I get a kick out of speaking a language that none of my co workers or friends understand. I will talk to my brother or sister at work sometimes and we will speak in Lithuanian .What a riot!!! I wish i could meet all of you folks in Lithuania but a friendly hello from the United States will have to suffice. God bless all of you and my prayers are with you for a strong and prosperous Lithuania. Peace to you my brothers ,Linas.
