Human billboard

This is a sad commentary on life and gives new meaning to the phrase "independent contractor."
My guess is that this type of advertising has been in existence in the Seattle area for a decade.
Maybe longer. People, whether in costume or not, stand on a busy street corner---usually in a
commercial area---acting as advertisers for a business. Often they wear no costume but just hold
a sign. Waving at drivers is a big feature, as if that will endear them to motorists. One tax
service recently had people dressed as the Statue of Liberty! I thank my lucky stars that I was
never in the position to have to consider such employment. This person is promoting Quiznos, a
sandwich restaurant. I was inspired to post this after seeing John Cooper's version of the same thing.
Shot in Renton on 17 Feb 2008.

After I posted this on Flickr, I got this response.

A scientist asks "What makes it work?" ;An Engineer asks "How can I make it work?" A Philosphy Major asks "Do you want fries with that"?

Looks like he's happy just waiting for orders from the straw boss.

I clicked on "this response".
I find it very interesting that they are employing senor citizens.

Larry, your comment is hard to swallow.

And here I was under the impression he was happy just drinking in the sights.

Larry, I think that's a grimace -- he's topheavy.
1moremile03-Jul-2008 00:14
Well, at least he can do this with a smile.

21st Century civilisation, mankind has come a long way with its humane treatment of citizens.
I would love to see the future.

I wonder what this looks like on a resume. Someone else put a sign on that corner and isn't paying it $6.25 an hour to stand there.
Lee G02-Jul-2008 03:36
How much do they pay? I'm not doing anything Thursday so I might as well pimp myself out .

i wonder if any "creative" lawyer types have sued a business, because they got in an accident while distracted by one of these....
