The only constant sounds were my footsteps and the breeze, Occasionally I also heard the faint roar of a speeding vehicle miles away on the salt flats, racing the clock at the World of Speed event. Geo-tagging is approximate.
The sounds---or lack thereof—had no effect on the solid
performance of Joe Tripod, who held my camera for this photo.
Joe has sneakers and crampons, and he wears both all the time so he is prepared for anything. I consider it a compliment that he has such a positive attitude about service. Most shots call for him to have his sneakers extended downward to conceal the crampon spikes. The rubber soles grip better than anything Vibram has devised. But these forms of foot attire are merely for stationary gripping, as he eschewed walking, strolling, strutting, sauntering, skipping, meandering, hiking, trekking, prancing, hopping, lollygagging, and all other forms of tripedal locomotion. Thus he never makes noise in the manner you suggested. He excels at what he does---and feels best about himself---when he "just stands there." Inertia is his middle name.
