Looking east from Floating Island

Floating Island, Utah

I think the orange glow in the sky is caused by the lights of civilization in the area between
Salt Lake City and Ogden, 110 miles away. In spite of the fact that I boosted the brightness
for a more pleasing effect, I can't think of anything else in that direction that could
produce so much light. There isn't much out here but empty space. Traveling east from here,
one encounters (in this order): a vast nothingness mostly occupied by the Air Force's Utah
Test and Training Range (UTTR), the Grassy Mountains, the Lakeside Mountains, Great Salt
Lake, and civilization. The bright lights on the ground are probably industrial facilities
(mines or incinerators) or installations within the UTTR.

This long exposure required that Joe Tripod, my photographic assistant, stand at attention
for over four minutes. As always, he served without the slightest movement or complaint.

The next day I ate breakfast here, then hiked to the summit of Floating Island.

It can't be Star Track Dave-where's Capt Kirk?

Larry, does that mean that those white lines are NOT star tracks? If so, I'm going to ask Nikon for a refund on my Digital Image Recording Device---Industrial Grade, Hardened (DIRD-IGH). What causes the dirt spots to be aligned in parallel?

Dave, I suggest that you buy a sensor cleaning kit.
I will send the link if you need it.
Beautiful scene.
