Standing on a sand dune that solidified "a few years earlier"

Arches National Park (Moab, Utah)

This dune is part of a ridge behind Delicate Arch. The arch is off to the left of this scene.

My position is shown from near Delicate Arch in another photo: http://www.pbase.com/image/62787630 .
In the other photo, I am atop the undulating rock about one-third of the way from the left side.

The position is also shown at the center of this WikiMapia aerial photo:
http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=38746042&x=-109498211&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=2 .

Joe Tripod, my personal photographic aide, enjoyed standing on a petrified sand dune as much as I did.

Chempilot, how should I take your comment---as "an Earthling exploring Mars" or as "a Martian exploring Earth"? I hope you meant the former. There is a difference.

Joe Tripod is a dang good photographer. You ought to start paying him.

cool colors. granite is great, but sandstone shows motion. if it wasn't for the green in the background you would look like a martian explorer...
