Second rappel off of Corona Arch: guy and jet

Bootlegger Canyon (near Moab, Utah)

A young man descends from the top of Corona Arch on a rappel rope. He began the
rappel rightside up, then turned upside down for most of the descent. To each
his own! I think I am safe in saying that this is not an everyday occurrence.

Dave, thanks for visiting my galleries, the kind words, and especially for providing a link to this picture (WAY too cool). Yup, you probably will never see this kind of action again at the arch. :-)

That's not enough Corona to get me to do this! Great catch!

Horsegoggles, are you asking about the guy in the rope or the pilot of the plane?
Guest 26-Mar-2007 04:23
Is he/she upside down on purpose?

Thats flipping crazy, cool shot I have to agree with you, Moab is one of my favorite places.

This is on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). I have seen nothing in brochures, the bulletin board at the trailhead, or the Web, that describes this as being prohibited. However, there are restrictions on climbing some of the natural features in nearby Arches National Park.

Awesome shot Dave! Great timing. I am pretty sure that this is illegal, but it sure looks like fun.

Great shot Dave! Was it legal for them to be climbing on that arch, let alone the rappeling? I have not been to Utah for a few years, but I seem to remember that at least some arches there are totally off limits. I like to have as much fun as the next guy, but I would also hate to lose a National treasure because of some horseplay.

i guess when these guys say they are going to hang out, they really mean hang out..

i lik the contrails to the right of the figure...like an arrow pointing: "this way down!"

I do not recall giving permission to take my picture, and I don't appreciate seeing it on the internet!!!

:-)))

My God, that looks scary just LOOKING at it. GREAT shot.

The photographic opportunity was pure serendipity. No dives desired or taken by either of us.

Now that's hanging around till' something better comes by!
Did you or Tripod Joe take a dive?

And those guys are ALSO stranger than fiction. You can't buy a shot like this, Dave. Big vote. I guess your new camera is working out pretty nice, eh?

Oh to be young again.
