What a wonderful, on-the-job photo. So many jokes about "going postal," and yet these folks have been through so much since the Anthrax attacks of 2001. I'm delighted to see she's still smiling. A very nice shot indeed.

He needed no ice. He was cold enough already.

If it is any consolation to my loyal commenters, Joyce and her colleagues never walk across ours, as we have none (just trees, bushes, and beauty bark). In addition, they do not walk much at all, as 99.99% of their deliveries are made by driving up to a set of mailboxes and delivering the mail from their driver's seat. On this day she got out of the truck to bring a package to me as I worked in my driveway. As far as I know, there has never been a truck following hers, driven by an efficiency expert. However, once I saw guy on foot, running behind her truck, a clipboard in one hand and a stopwatch in another: he was tired. I admired his dedication, so I gave him a hat and some cold water.

I think my comment was misunderstood. I don't mean that they do walk across lawns, only that they are told to do that to save time. I have seen carriers with a person behind them carrying a clipboard and stop watch, etc. I would not have the second person's job. It seems like a sorry way to make a "living."

I would like to make the effort and appreciate my mail man.
His habit of urinating in the bushes outside my house, and posting my mail at random to all my neighbours makes this hard to do.
As Larry says, nice way to make friends.

Personally, I would never go postal. I love the mail and my mail person too much. I'm glad someone else does. John Matt

She is smiling because she is being followed by a bureaucrat with a stop watch. They do that a lot in the States. They actually want the carriers to walk across lawns. Nice way of making friends.

This is obviously a paid model. No postal person in the history of postal services (invented in England) has ever been seen smiling.
