Driven to distraction by drive death

A few days ago my main data drive (Acomdata 1-Tbyte) died without warning. I had hoped
that the imminent Drive Death Announcement Circuit (IDDAC) would warn me of such a
calamity, but it must have died too. Thus no bells rang and no lights flashed to warn
me. No data was lost, as I back up data every day, and my back-up drive still works.

What to do? Another Acomdata drive was out of the question, so I looked at reviews of other brands.
(By the way, Amazon.com, the place I bought my Acomdata drives, no longer carries them.) I read
about Seagate, Western Digital, and Iomega. Every drive of the dozen or so I looked at had a couple
of bad reviews, but the Seagate "FreeAgent Go" had a ton of good reviews, so I bought it. (It's the
small drive pictured.) In addition, it has only one cord, simplifying set-up.

Clockwise from top: the dead Acomdata drive holding all my data, the functioning Acomdata back-up
drive holding all my data, and the cute little Seagate drive now also holding all my data.

I love the pattern of lights on the new drive.

Got a 1 TB Seagate for my external. So far so good.

It won't be long till we see affordable, 16TB external and internal drives. I have an extra 1TB internal drive and a 2TB Western Digital external drive. So far, so good.

I've had a few drives fail over the years...fortunately I had backup for most oif it!

2 thumbs up for Seagate drives. I've used them for years and have not had any problems.

And some day you'll look back at this and laugh at how huge it is.

Disc size is one of the most amazing advances in technology. In the mid 80's a company I worked for sold a 10 MB, yes 10 Megabyte drive to a broadcaster to store still frame broadcast images. It was the size of a desk, took four people to carry it, and took over 5 minutes to spin up to operatingspeed

Buy two, they're cheap! I still wish they had blinky lights rather than the slowly pulsating glow.

They just keeps getting smaller. I'm marvelling at the fact that I have a combined 1 Terabyte plus of free storage space at my disposal. 250MB hard drives seem like yesterday...
Whoops, make that 982 GB of free storage.
Er, 979...
