Knowing that rooms at Lakeside (Utah) are hard to come by, I made a reservation long in advance. When I arrived, my room was waiting for me, but there were numerous annoyances: I had to steer around a thick rusty cable in the parking lot (where's the janitor?), the manager was nowhere to be found, I had to make my own bed because the maids were on strike, there was no complimentary soap and shampoo, the television reception was less than impressive---and there was no remote control!, the patio outside my room had the feel of an old industrial environment, and I was awakened at night by the sound of passing trains. Not only that, but the promise of "stunning lake views from every room" was a bit of an exaggeration, as I had to walk about 100 feet just to see the lake. This experience did nothing to endear me to the service industry of Utah.
