A fire of unknown origin burned a lot of tamarisk and singed cottonwood trees. Strong winds moved it
from left to right here. Low, sparse brush in a powerline right-of-way burned up pretty quickly and
gave the fire a path to reach the far (right) side of the right-of-way. At that point the wind died,
preventing the fire from getting close to Kane Creek Road. I watched the fire's progress from a
hillside on the other side of the Colorado River. The wetlands border housing developments of Moab;
a helicopter spent at least an hour scooping water from the river and dropping it near the houses.
