Hi, we have lived for many years in a remnant of a miombo forest in Mozambique. This forest, like many others in Mozambique was destroyed by the local population either to open fields to grow maize and to turn the valuable trees into charcoal for sale in the towns for cooking fuel. To add to these problems, we now have Chinese sawmills here, too.
We have about 30 Samangos in our little forest - if you're interested look at our video blog www.odpixleyforestblog.blogspot.com at our video "Help, we have an explosion of monkeys!"
We also have a great many vervets and night apes, among many other animals, reptiles and birds that fled into our trees for refuge when their habitat was destroyed.
If the truth be told, from our sad experience, very few people in the world really give a damn about these animals.
