Here are some Shots from my MONDO road trip to Kerrville Texas for the Annual Mother of all folk music festivals that lasts for 18 days. This festival is in it's 37th year, and was juicy rich with Texas Country musicians and the creme de la creme of independent folk musicians. HIghlights: Devon Sproule, from West Virginia, Dale Watson ala Johnny Cash with Texas swing, Peppino DAgostino Italy/Benicia doing "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" on acoustic guitar and of course my personal fave; Caroline Aiken joined for last two songs with Phillbillie, Jenn Kerr and Freebo. Caroline was one of the five headliners for Saturday night, first week of festival, I got in on a VIP through her, so back stage access, hence all shots of Caroline's performance are from the view box back stage.
My route was from the Bay Area, Across Nevada via Great Basin, along I70 in Utah (this crosses the San Rafael Swell - spectacular scenery), to the Colorado National Monument (this had the most scenic 23 mile route dug in the side of Kayenta and Morrision (red rock) formations, just amazing, and then down Co over Slumgullion Pass and the Great Divide onward through remote northern New Mexico and through Taos tourist central, Tucumcari (bluck) onward to Lubbock and finally to Kerrville. The Route back Home was via El PasoTexas to Silver City New Mexico, Canyon De Chelly within Navaho nation Arizona, Arches NP and Moab in Utah and My personal favorite; The Great Basin NP in Nevada. Spectacular scenic route, a mere 4417 miles round trip -whew! Enough driving already!!!
