This is the biggest mushroom known on planet. Armillaria species, here armillaria mellea, can spread over 1000 square kilometers of surface. The biggest known is in the USA and covers the surface of 3 big states. The mushroom propagates like a large grid or net under the soil and destroies entire forests. He is is some way the nightmare of all foresters. If one compacts the substance under the soil of this largest known one, it will weight some 11 tons.
It's a very tasty edible mushroom as well. You can cut the heads before they open and boil them. Trow the boiling water and then frie with onions in the pan.
This mushroom is also known for it's excellent medical properties in reinforcement of blood vessels. Helps in case of hemoroids, varicus and other blood vessel weakness.
