There we were.... eyeball-to-eyeball..... I with my 3 eyes (two color-blind, natural ones, plus a 700 mm f/5.6 whose eyeball is 5 inches in diameter).... and she with her suspicious orbs that should be able to pierce the darkness around grass-enclosed earth.

In what seemed to be an eternity (actually just a few seconds), she hesitated to come out from the safety of the grass to feed on the wide open dirt road. I was sweating profusely inside my car-turned-hide, my heart racing like crazy, my lips mumbling prayers to all the avian gods for her to take the next step forward.

Either the masters in avian heaven listened to my pleas, or she just took me as a harmless, hairless nut, but she did step forward into the open. And my shutter worked like a machine gun bolt, and my sensor crammed RAW bits into my CF card at 5 fps.

Whew!!!.... this lunatic thing called birding is fun....;-)
