We live in suburban Atlanta and had our first pileated woodpeckers visit us today. My brother in Arkansas sent pics of a pair of Pileated (named Woody and Woodella) that have settled on his property. What a delight to see them here as well! They seemed to be scouting for real estate and settled on a large pine tree. The female flew off and the male got to work pecking away. We hope our avian guests come back tomorrow to prepare our tree for their nest so we can watch their family grow.
