Tony Kanaan finished 3rd in the 2011 Grand Prix after having to start in the 27th position as a result of a crash he had in his qualifying run. He lost his brakes heading down the front stretch. He intentionally ran into the back of Helio Castrovenes' car to avoid a more disastrous crash. He flew over Helio's right side and crashed into some hay bales in the first corner. As a result of this unfortunate incident Helio had to start in the 28th position.
