Conowingo Dam - 2011

The 2011 season (for me), i.e. mid-October to mid-December, has somewhat paralleled last year. The last two years I have seen a smaller number of eagles compared to previous years. We had some unusual weather in that the water levels of the Susquehanna River were quite high. In fact, during the last hurricane(Irene)considerable damage was done to the area. On one day this season, I easily counted 66 Bald Eagles at one viewing. I'm sure I missed quite a few juveniles off in the distance. Many of the Bald Eagles sit on the rocks across the river (half mile away). One must patiently wait for them to lift off into the air and head your way. Many photographers are using 500mm, 600mm, 800mm lenses and often with a teleconverter. It is difficult (or impossible) to get a decent shot that far away.
