…but some of us are looking at the stars. (Oscar Wilde)
We have been working like dogs all day today but I am thrilled with what we’ve achieved. There has been progress on a number of fronts – that bedroom again - it now has a ‘ticked off’ ceiling, the new walk-in wardrobe is (hopefully by the time I finish typing this because DM is fitting hanging rails as I type) finished, the woodwork is awaiting one final coat, which I’m loathe to give it until the walls are done but we can’t start them yet as we still have some not-dry plaster…..anyway, that’s only a day or two away so I am less panicked about the carpet fitters coming and us not being ready.
The other bit that’s ‘ticked off’ is the lobby. DM has been re-sealing windows and sorting out leaks while I finished the painting and once the paint was dry, have scrubbed up the quarry-tiled floor and put the furniture in.
I think our neighbours will expect the starry lights to go after Christmas, but I bought them months ago, always intending them as the main source of lighting out there but had been waiting for electricians and then decorating to be done.
It’s quite interesting to see the difference in the warmth of the light from the two separate lots of stars – one lot is a garden light set that has tungsten bulbs, the other set is LED – there is a massive difference. The cable will get hidden over the next couple of days when I can get out and buy some white-headed drawing pins.
Anyway, the upshot of all of this is I feel we’ve had a GOOD day, despite our lunchtime break to watch our team get a drubbing from our fiercest rivals. I love the way the stars reflect over and over again into infinity in the windows and I like it as a self-portrait too.
I am in the gutter as ever, but I am definitely seeing stars (of the best kind) now.
Last year, flies!
