17th May 2006 - almost blue

I’m a great believer in using all of your senses as I’ve said before. I like them to work together to bring joy to all of my sensory receptors. That’s why I love scented plants so much – I can never understand why you’d buy a rose for the garden without smelling its perfume first, likewise honeysuckle and a whole host of other plants. There is nothing better than a stroll round the garden at dusk and smelling the scent of honeysuckle in the breeze.

Never before had I realised what a heady perfume bluebells have though. David had been out in our studio yesterday taking shots of bluebells picked from the garden and he brought back into the dining room three little vases of them. I suddenly became aware of a lovely scent and managed to use my powers of deduction to suss out that it was coming from the bluebells! Now there’s clever (not).

So, he challenged me to do some shots of them and see if mine were as good as his….of course mine are rubbish compared to his but anyway, this is one of them. No matter how long I take photos, I’ll never be as skilled a photographer as he is but I like to think that I keep him from being complacent because I’m creeping up behind him.

I was trying for a sort of ‘washed out’ look like Rosie’s beautiful clematis yesterday but failed dismally because I really find it had to let go of my colour!!!

Anyway, having failed to match up to the challenge of either David or Rosie, I still like this shot probably more than anything I’ve done since the petal hearts….AND this has given me an idea for my next big ‘art’ project. Given that I’ve been floundering on it, I’m relieved to have come up with something. Since I have been selling some of my photos, I have found I feel the pressure of coming up with ideas very wearing. However, that said, the new camera fund is growing by the day and that’s a relief given the decidedly precarious position of my current weapon!

Last year that beautiful salad dressing pourer was getting an airing for the second day in a row!

Don't keep putting yourself down. Your photos give a great deal of pleasure to many people, including me! This is a lovely photo. There is nothing quite like a bluebell wood in full bloom and the perfume is very heady.

This is lovely, I especially like your use of DOF. The blurry one in the background is quite nice.--Rene

Its not rubbish, it's beautiful and certainly the most original perspective
of a bluebell that I've seen so far this year! GMV

Great DOF, Embraceable You Comparing Yourself To Others
You are unique. There is no one else like you in the entire universe. In honor of your unique self, it is good to acknowledge and embrace the special qualities that make you the person that you are. One way to do this is to not compare yourself with other people.
It is human nature to want to see how we measure up in comparison to others - especially if we think that they are better than us or have more of something that we want. Yet the truth is that it is not a good use of time to compare ourselves with others because there is no one like us and this makes us incomparable. It is sometimes almost easier to look outside of ourselves and feel like we are deficient in comparison to other people rather than taking responsibility for our own progress in relation to the fulfillment of our life purpose. It actually takes more courage to be self-referential and look at ourselves to see whether we are measuring up to our standards or meeting our full potential. Each of us has very special gifts, and we are here for very specific reasons. We each have a life purpose to fulfill and with this come the lessons that we must learn and the circumstances that we must go through in order to evolve as spiritual beings. To compare our lives to other pe! ople's lives when we have no idea of what they are here to learn or fulfill doesn't benefit anyone - especially you.
Instead, if we can accept ourselves, appreciate the special talents and qualities that we alone possess, and realize that each of us is going through certain kinds of experiences for a reason, we are less likely focus so much on what other people have or are doing. Realizing and valuing our uniqueness enables us to bring out the best in ourselves so we can get on with living rather than preoccupying ourselves with meaningless comparisons. Try to not compare yourself to others, and you will see how much you have and how special you are.
