The whole of my world is a huge scratch and sniff experience. I scratch the surface and bring to life the smells that make life real. Smell the muck the farmer spreads on the fields to bring life to his crops, smell the coffee percolating….indicating it’s breakfast time, catch the scent of someone walking past who is wearing the same scent your lover wears.
Share the intoxicationg smells of my world as I describe them to you.
Bury your face in the laundry as it comes off the washing line, smelling of fresh air, sniff the head of a child or a precious pet to tell if they’re healthy or sick. Breathe the glory of honeysuckle on the night-time air, attracting its pollonators. Smell the sea as you round the corner and see the coast. Know that as you ride over the brow of the hill, you will see yellow fields of oil seed rape spreading out ahead of you because you’ve smelt it coming for miles.
Love the smell of food. Experience the heady, bewildering mix of spices, in huge sacks in the bustling spice market in Istanbul. Relish the coming meal that smells of garlic and onions sautéing in the pan. Envy your neighbour’s curry as its heady cardamom and cumin wafts through your open window, infusing your soul with bonhomie. Smart as the chilli’s piquant oil hits all of your senses, full-on with no excuses. Smell the unforgettable scent of tomatoes in the greenhouse in the sunshine. Breathe rosemary’s pungent aroma as you break the branch to add to the earthy delights of freshly dug potatoes, straight from the garden.
Allow my world to waft under your nose.
Thrill at the musky, rich smell of passion that lingers on the skin and in the hair reminding you of well, you know what – nights of love and tenderness. Sniff your lover’s hair as you lean forward for a kiss.
Inhale my world. It’s full of life. It’s rich and exciting. It’s pungent and exotic.
Breathe – it’s what gives you smell…..
Last year, I could smell my own fear!
