As DM will tell you, I’m a frugal Christmas food shopper, partly because I just hate all the waste at Christmas and partly because all that rich, sweet food does absolutely nothing for me or my waistline.
So, Waitrose didn’t make a fortune out of me this week and all that came home was our normal shopping stuff, supplemented by a few bags of ‘posh crisps’ and a pack of cashews – my favourite of all the nuts.
I was on the sofa with a handful and thought to myself they look a bit like tadpoles with their fat ‘heads’ and thin curled up tails. I was idly pushing them around in the palm of my hand when this idea shot into my mind. I was a bit taken aback because my mind has been devoid of ideas all day – the most animated I’ve been is to jump around in the pub making an idiot of myself when Spurs scored their three goals in a six-goal jamboree away at Middlesborough. Talk about exciting – what a game!
I kind of like the yin/yang idea for the cashews – they’re very good for you but as the theory goes, they also have a ‘dark side’ in as much as if you eat too many that’s bad!
These ones were shot in difficult conditions on the edge of the table and lit by a candle to the side, lighting one nut and keeping the other in shadow. The best bit for me is the ‘mastery’ of a custom white balance for the shot…..though I’m sure that I’ll forget how again tomorrow as I have on so many previous occasions, much to the chagrin of DM.
Two years ago, I was getting whipped up in a frenzy about food (so what else is new)and last year we were celebrating a big win....and I was being taken to task by a 'mystery guest' who mistakenly thought I was being anti-semitic...which I certainly was NOT and indeed the 'guest' didn't even bother to get the name of the team right before slagging me off - don't you just love the little darlings?
