2nd November 2005 - who gives a sh*t about consumers anyway?

I’m home tonight and happy to be so.

This morning, on my way to a client meeting and very early – whenever the M25 is involved in a journey it’s always best to allow double the time you think you’ll need so you can sit on the tarmac on the motorway enjoying listening to the ‘dance’ music belting out from the ‘hot hatch’ in front and breathing in all of the pollution from the thousands of other cars around you also on the road to nowhere.

I digress – I was early so I popped into Sainsbury to get a few bits of shopping that I knew we needed at home, including some wine glasses. I got these ones and they are at least marginally better than the last ones I bought in as much as they are made from thick-ish glass so won’t fall to pieces in my hand like the last lot I bought. I’ve not yet given them the test that will probably make me see red when I do – the dishwasher test!

The dishwasher test has nothing to do with whether they go cloudy in it – just that they will fit on the top shelf. It may seem really trivial but it pisses me off no end that glass designers/manufacturers can’t make wine glasses with a decent size goblet but short enough stems to go in the dishwasher and I don’t have time to wash them by hand.

Am I alone in thinking things should be practical before any other consideration? Glasses that’ll fit in the dishwasher, a toaster that’ll fit ‘breadmaker’ sized slices of bread – these would be things I’d buy……

Last year, I was in my finest hour, not the depths I find myself in this year. Two years ago, I was building nests and looking after the soul of DM by making preserves.

LOL at Jeanne!
Like they say, form follows function... at least, it should!

Discovered there's such a thing as a dishwasher with a 5 minute cycle this weekend that takes glasses of any size... So why do 'domestic' dishwashers take 2 hours plus???

I hate to admit it, but I sit here in my basement (today's PAD will explain) drinking a very nice Riesling from a very cheap IKEA tumbler for the very reason it fits in the dishwasher, whilst my expensive cut-glass wine glasses gather dust in the cupboard. Still, the wine tastes just as nice. I hope your life is on the up Linda :)

I agree. Kitchen appliances that don't have 15 components to clean after five minutes of use is another one.

Lovely color. Enjoy the wine glasses.

My toaster is called "Lotta Slot"

It fits big, fat bread, but has a name like a porn star!

Beautiful! I like the colours and DOF!

Beautiful texture!
Don't know about the dishwasher bit, as I have never had one...been handwashing the wine glasses for the thirty years of my adult life.
Enjoy the weekend...it's great to be home!

I love the golden hue and your use of dof. Have to admit I don't put glasses in the dishwasher - ever since I ruined the cut crystal ones I had as a wedding present!
