After a long and exciting day today, doing the most important ‘shopping’ of our lives, we got home and decided to spend the last couple of hours of daylight walking the moors with Rosie and Archie – we never get any complaints from them about such a decision.
We’d decided to go to the quarry so they could have a swim but amazingly and annoyingly there were a couple of families on their way up there. I know it’s not our private estate but it feels like it and we got a bit fed up by their intrusion into our privacy. So, we changed our route and went to Pearce’s and Holman’s instead where we got our peace and quiet back.
Rosie took her tennis ball and threw it into the pit at Holman’s and while DM was trying to retrieve it he noticed this crow’s nest, high in the ruin. I took the photo and only later realised that it was made more interesting by the other textures like the red brick and the timber lintels. It took me ages to work out that there had also been a later ‘bricking up’ of the original opening that you can clearly see by the difference in colour, size and texture of the stone.
The symbolism of the crow’s nest, when the pub of the same name is a short, beautiful walk down the hill and the sanctuary it provides is second to none seemed too good an analogy to be true, made me love this shot.
Our world has got better today with some tidying up taking place and a displaced door returned to its rightful spot, making us more comfortable. It will get better again when we see the result of our ‘shopping’.
I sit here, on our sofa, watching MOTD (Match of the day for the uninitiated) safe in the knowledge that we’ve not played and therefore I don’t have to squirm if we lost but actually I’m more than a bit worried that if we don’t beat Fulham on Monday night, my Dad (a dyed in the wool Wigan Athletic fan) will really crow after they went above us today (this is their first ever season in the Premiership) but at least at the moment I can claim it’s because we’ve got a game in hand.
I also sit here feeling content and happy, if sore of foot and tired. We’ve got some serious decisions to make and a lot of life to live. We’re fired up and ready to make those decisions now though and our world is finally coming together.
Two years ago, I was celebrating a momentous occasion! and last year, Alison was my theme.
