1st April 2005 - two hearts together

I feel as if I never stop moaning at the moment. Why am I like that when David is now here in Madrid with me? I met him at the airport late this afternoon and the poor chap has been confined to our hotel room ever since we arrived by taxi from the hotel.

It’s exhaustion that’s causing me to whine and to lie on the bed trying to snooze while he was hopping around the room as if he’d got ants in his pants, wanting to get out there and experience the city. I had almost no sleep last night – I didn’t climb into bed until 1am and then I lay awake for another two or three hours. It felt like a bomb had gone off when the phone rang for my early morning call at 7am and since then I’ve not stopped. I’ve been on my feet presenting all day and that in itself is really tiring, without the lack of sleep beforehand.

Now though it’s nearly 9pm, I have not slept but at least have rested a bit. We’re gladragged up and off for dinner with the life and soul of our organisation, the Spanish team. Juan Jo, Rafael and Berna are taking DM, my German colleague Anja (who has been helping me with this training) and myself out to a Mexican restaurant.

The third leg of this tour has now been done, I get to go home on Sunday for two nights, then am off again for another two nights. Groan.

These little tiny heart-shaped hot water bottles were a gift from the hotel and we are confused as to why a person staying in this fair city would need the comfort of a hot water bottle - it seems strange when the temperature here is benign and probably now around 15 deg C.

I was hoping to find the lyrics of ‘Two Hearts Together’ by Orange Juice online so I could drop this pic into my ‘capturing songs’ gallery but it’s not to be. The only references I can find are to people selling the 7” single and someone on Edwyn’s website’s message board saying that it’s a crap song!!!

The great news from his website is that Edwyn is on the mend after his cerebral haemorrhage in February – his wife says he is now able to communicate and to have real food. Hurrah – get better Edwyn. I need my remaining musical heroes – too many of them are leaving this world.

DM is here so hopefully I’ll find some sleep tonight and feel more like me tomorrow.

Last year I was still thinking about simple pleasures and two years ago my world was full of rain!

It gets freezing in Madrid in winter. They had snow only about a month ago!

Have a wonderful time out with Juan Jo and Rafael. It's hard not to!

cool h/water bottles, not that they are needed when "snuggling" and i agree about the disapearing musical mentors, it is becoming a wasteland of bad music out there, i dont want to turn the radio on these days, hope you and David have a nice break together, we will have to met up again when we have more time.

Simon.
