22nd October 2004 - Happiness comes in many forms....

Although I sometimes feel that we are only really happy when we’re in Cornwall, of course that’s not really true. We both find happiness in all sorts of things and today has seen us having a really happy time with Shazbop and Champagne Hughie.

I got a text message a couple of weeks ago asking us if we would be free to meet up for a meal tonight and as luck would have it, it’s a ‘footie weekend’ (Spurs v Bolton tomorrow at WHL) so we were planning on being in Sandhurst rather than Cornwall. Cool – a swift reply set the date, place and time of our meeting as Lavenders in Clapham, a suburb of London so we got on our gladrags and caught the train into the City.

This photo was taken a few moments after DM showed me his pictures of me as ‘bag lady’, crawling around on the platform of the station picking up Sweet Chestnuts to eat – there’s nothing I like more than ‘free food’. Unbeknown to me, DM was snapping away at this spectacle and gleefully showed me the photos of me crouching in the light of a streetlamp, sifting through the debris to get myself some Chestnuts. Actually, surprisingly I liked the photos and posed for a couple on the train.

I whipped out my camera and took this shot of David looking at me as though I was bonkers, stuck the camera away thinking I’d get some pics in the restaurant or on the way home but it was not to be.

In the restaurant we were so busy:

· Dancing in our chairs to the late 70s/early 80s funk and soul that the manager was playing (I can’t remember the last time I heard some of the songs they were playing).
· Sharing the goss since we last met – Shazbop is still having traumas at work and it looks likely she’ll leave her precious job at Universal Music because of the anti-social and deeply unpleasant actions of two of her colleagues. That pisses me off because she’s perfect in every way and anyone who makes her life a misery deserves to be the one punished by losing her job, not Shazzer.
· Getting filled in on the plight of our very dear Marc Almond who I’d not heard was badly hurt in a motor bike accident earlier in the week. Marc, the world won’t be the same unless you make a full recovery – we are sending our good vibes your way. When I was younger and living the rock chick life, the Q-Tips used to call me Marc because I used to dye my hair raven black, crimp it into a huge mass of sparkly black stuff, wear nothing but black with loads of silver jewellery and khol rings round my eyes….they used to say I looked like him in the ‘Soul Inside’ days.
· Chatting to the waitress, a ‘sarf landin’ (South London) girl who lives opposite the Half Moon in Hearne Hill (another suburb of London), where Shazzer and I used to spend a lot of time watching bands and generally ligging.

On the way home we were squeezed on the train, with no room and I had no inspiration to take photos of the ‘Uncle Buck’ look alike opposite us!!!

So, despite the lack of sharpness, I’m posting David, grinning from ear-to-ear and looking exactly like we both felt……as happy as Larry!

A happy and wonderful portrait. Like the other commentors, I find it impossible not to smile while viewing this photo.

Bet your not smiling now! Sam's lads have done it again

Wonderful, absolutely infectious smile. I can't help but smile back when I look at it.

Hey Linda - never mind the sharpness - that grin is all that matters - wonderful shot !
