DM stands no chance of pulling this massive tractor tyre even as much as an inch. It’s full of concrete and has been put here to stop cars from being able to drive along the track onto the moor. Quite why anyone would want to risk their suspension by doing so is beyond me but I suppose there are lots of people around driving 4x4s and thinking they are superhuman so perhaps the local farmers have got sick of people thinking the moor is their own private playground. Not only that, but the iron chain that he’s holding is incredibly heavy in itself. I could only lift three links when I tried.

When I was revising for my exams, I noticed an ordinary car on the track on the hillside. It’d managed to navigate difficult terrain for at least a mile (nearest possible entry point) but was heading for a place where there was nowhere to exit the track. We watched agog as it got as far as it could go, then reversed about a quarter of a mile before it found a spot to turn around in. We don’t know if was a driver who was just totally inept or a dodgy satnav instruction but either way it must have been scary! So, it’s not a good idea to just decide to go “off-road”.

All we were doing at the point today when this shot was taken was killing time before the footie and at the same time ensuring the dogs got their constitutional. So, “the standard loop”, a tennis ball, two dogs, two people and a camera…time duly killed and home in time for lunch before footie. Oh how I’ve been waiting for this day. I can’t tell you how the close season depresses me. Still, we’re off. We now have three points and although it was an industrial approach to the beautiful game, it was still bloody marvellous to see. Next up - Dinamo Tbilisi, then Swansea at home next weekend…I have been waiting for this!
