I have a good excuse for no photo yesterday – I had an accident in my car and spent most of the day huddled and shaking on the sofa.
I went to work as usual although the forecast was for snow and we had Met Office orange warnings. My job is “down the hill” from where we live, mind you that’s true of most places, so the weather is always a bit less bad. We had an agreement that if the weather came in, he would phone me and I’d shut up shop and come home.
So far, so good.
Within half an hour of arriving, the snow was falling thick and fast at work so I phoned home – no snow…..yet.
A couple of hours later, the call came – get home now or you may not be able to get home today. I shut everything down, got in the car and came home. At least, I got in the car to try to come home. I got about half way and once again found myself in a bad situation for the second time in three weeks. At one point, my journey takes me into a narrow bit of road, which is only wide enough for one car. It’s on a downward slope and at the bottom there is a blind bend. I knew that the road was slippery and set my car onto the section with extreme trepidation that something would come round the bend and not be able to stop.
Of course, this is exactly what happened.
I aimed as best as I could between the wall and the car, braked to no effect, (as did she) then found myself wedged between the two. Luckily no personal injuries to either me or the lady in the other car. Unluckily for her, a mondegreen means that I now think her name is Mrs Poo. Unluckily for me (she was driving a lease car so probably could simply pick up a replacement the following day) I had damaged my bonnet, wing, bumper and front light. None of the damage is major but I’m now in the worrying position that my insurers may well write off my near-worthless car rather than repair the damage.
Bloody annoyingly we’d spent a hundred quid on repairing the exhaust the day before and even more bloody annoyingly, we’ll almost certainly get paid a paltry sum that won’t enable us to buy a replacement and we can’t afford to add to it. So, I rely on the car to get to college and work and I’m now in the difficult situation of potentially losing that vital thing. This is not to mention the painful insurance situation, where I’m almost certainly going to be obliged to pay an excess (stump up a wodge of cash), again which I can ill afford.
I wonder if I could get a big roll of sellotape and simply stick it all back together……
