28th December 2009 - great/grate

This photo is “hammed up” mainly because it was taken quickly because I was busy preparing a meal and I saw the pattern and thought “what the hell – let’s do it”. I could have set a custom white balance but I was already behind schedule and just needed to get myself a shot.

So things we are asking ourselves at Chez Mingay this Christmas season……

Great

How come we didn’t get married before? It’s GREAT.

Why didn’t I pluck up courage to leave my job before I got ill and do something more emotionally rewarding? Being a full-time student is both a privilege and a pleasure despite being extremely hard work. I NEVER come home any more and question the morality of what I’ve spent my day doing.

Isn’t it wonderful that the Super Spurs are sitting pretty in 4th place in the Premiership? Doesn’t it read wonderfully well that little Jermain Defoe is top of the league’s top scorers table? Isn’t Harry a marvel? Oh yes, yes, yes……

Can we assume from this cold, cold world that has engulfed us at the moment that we’ll have fewer slugs this summer? Oh I DO hope so.

Is there enough water? Yep – all of the South West’s reservoirs are already declared full after our wet November……and summer!

Grate

Is it just me who wants to commit MURDER every time I see an ad on TV with a simpering model/actress/pop singer/so-called celebrity saying “because I’m worth it”? Is anyone taken in by them? Does anyone really believe those women use L’Oreal products? The most murderous of all is Cheryl Cole going on about how wonderful L’Oreal shampoo is when SHE’S WEARING A WIG…..well, what amounts to a wig – “Ms Cole is styled with some natural hair extensions” in tiny print at the bottom of the screen…….GGGGrrrrrrrrrrrr. It’s DISHONEST in spirit even if it’s not considered dishonest in the eyes of the advertising standards laws.

Why do more people not see that spending more to bring us out of recession is only storing up trouble for the future? Yeah – go out and buy a new car/phone/computer game/foot spa – it’s all good……especially as they’re all made in far away places which means jobs are not being created or protected here……especially as they cost the earth in terms of transportation, production and eventual lobbing into landfill. Absolutely – it’s good for the economy.

Am I alone in being sick to the back teeth of already being canvassed by politicians trying to curry support for the forthcoming elections? Does anyone else care that in a few months time we’re probably going to be “ruled” by some posh twit who thinks he’s in touch with the common people by calling himself “Dave” and doing a bit of internet jiggery-pokery? If he gets in then we might as well not have fought for years for the rights of ordinary people. He hasn’t a clue what work is. Prep School, Eton, Oxford – surely there can be no-one alive who thinks that he knows what it’s like to graft all day in a mind-numbingly boring job to keep the wolves from the door? Exzim is right re the current regime - please don't think I have any great affection for them, my only point is that at least a few of them have some small idea about the real world.....if Dave gets in and fills his cabinet with old Etonians then we're all sunk. Every bit of so-called “information” from any of the political parties is now being carefully rigged to gain votes. Oh crap, crap and double crap – I sometimes wonder how stupid we all must be to allow this to happen.

Has anyone else noticed that the slimy bankers are all doing “of course you can trust us, we’re really nice” ads at the moment? Oh get real. Trust you lot? I wouldn’t trust you further than I could throw you.

"knows what it’s like to graft all day in a mind-numbingly boring job to keep the wolves from the door"

And neither does the present incumbent or his predecessor. From the news reports I read the Labour Party is removing the rights of citizens as fast as it can. Frankly the whole government structure in the UK, Monarchy, MP's, Civil Non-Service are underperforming incompetents living fat on the public purse.

Ditto on all of that...
Great/grate shot, Linda. Looks like something DM or I would take! LOL!

this Cole person must be a UK/Britain *star* . . never heard of her =)
As for politicians & commercials . . I thought that was a local thing . . . there must be some sort of globla political "how-to" association out there for these "aren't I doing well!" spots to be so universal . . . and as for bankers . . . we're still wondering how they can offer such magnificent bonuses when they rest of us are barely keeping heads above water

as for you & DM . . .GREAT . . . just be glad you did it as soon as you did & didn't end up waiting another twenty yrs trying to figure it all out =)))
