wrapped in thought

Though I love portraits, I usually feel uncomfortable and unsure when come to approaching people and asking
for permission. But this old man was kind enough to let me shoot without uttering or even looking at my camera.
I didn't want to take a step further to shoot his full face. And I like the way that it turned out.

This one took my breath away! The colours, the detail, the light, and most of all, the man. You've captured him perfectly Ai Li. GMV.

The years are visible on his face, and for sure the present is not synonym with happiness. His eyes are not expecting anything anymore.
I really like the light on this one, and the framing by the wall. Excellent portrait, Ai Li.

Superb detail and texture evokes rhw character. It sometimes pays to be reticent, doesn't it?

This is brilliant! From your comments I'm not sure whether you really framed it this way consciously, but I love the way that the edge of the wall behind him coincides with the farthest reach of his face to the left. It makes me feel that although he's momentarily sheltered and looking inwards, that retreat from the world can only be for a moment.

I agree with you, this is another great one. He looks lost in thought and hardened by the trials of life. Very sad. My favourite in the gallery so far.
