"... if you think back and replay your year,
if it doesn’t bring you tears,
either of joy or sadness,
consider the year wasted..."

Decided on a quick shot to mark my first year "anniversary" on pbase :-)
Thank everyone again for your greatest support, feedback, sharing and encouragement.
And most importantly, for your friendship. Thank you.
Special thanks to my dear friend, Ros for getting me started on pbase one year ago,
letting me experience such an unforgettable journey in photography.
It has been a roller coaster ride of learning, inspiration and emotion,
at times exhausting and frustrating, but I got no regrets.
Here I am today, still continuing to try, fail, find and grow, day by day, under your eyes.

Up against the wall maybe but always climbing higher.

Happy one year anniversary, my dear.
So much has passed between then and now, it feels like so long ago.
Keep seeing, thinking, growing... You can only get better! :)

Hi Ai Li

I applaud you for having the courage to display your strengths and vulnerability through this gallery. It has been a pleasure watching this gallery unfold, and it has launched you to a class of your own. Magnificent. Voted.

I wish that in my own rollercoaster ride, my highs would be like your lows!
A brilliant image, with the work on the light that is interesting - coming once from the right and once from the left. The high key is so perfect, with the edge of the arm in the light vanishing entirely. Crawling, as Jude said, yes, there is a feel of that. As if between the to shots, you had been able to reach the top right corner. Very creative and perfectly realized. Voted.

Happy Pbase!!! Brilliant shot finale to the first year... It seems as though you're climbing the wall, frame by frame... I love how the right torso fades into the background at the bottom, showing that with each movement you raise your sights and leave the past behind, bounding into new levels... *V*

Your creativity is beyond any limit! You GMV of course.
JSWaters16-Oct-2006 17:11
Happy pbase anniversary, Ai Li. I feel off balance looking at this - as if the two yous are feeling blindly for each other in the dark - while everything is bright and white. Your placement on the left says you're reaching and searching for something, the outsplayed fingers trying to get there. On the right, you've positioned yourself higher, more confident of the direction you're going, your hand skims along the path you've traveled.

Lovely sense of...I don't quite know the word; flow, bounce, reciprocity here - the way it makes the eye run from one corner to the other, noting the differences and correspondences.
David Grundy16-Oct-2006 15:18
Are there two of you?
Original, as so often. Thanks for the first year of sharing.
petem16-Oct-2006 14:01
We can see so much of you without seeing much of you. Wonderful Ai Li!
Niquin16-Oct-2006 13:57
Fantastic image! I really like the high key B&W and how the shot is full of emotion even with showing any facial expressions!!! voted

Very nice idea for an SP
Stu Egan16-Oct-2006 11:59
OK is this a particularly heated game of Twister that's gone horribly wrong?!!

Seriously though, great visual appeal and a cool idea. Brave and inventive in terms of its rule breaking and it really works, I like all that space in the middle. Those small amounts of shadow really add to it too imo.
Guest 16-Oct-2006 11:55
Ooooh very nice...
wonderful idea of an SP and a geniusly creative shot.
Thanks for your friendship too, AL. Happy anniversary!

I hate my work computer.. I wrote something and lost it .. :S
What I said was that I am ever impressed with your creative additions to this gallery.. they are unique and excellent.
I like that you seem to be crawling up the wall.. the bit of strap falling down is a great touch.
Ed Goodnight16-Oct-2006 09:06
intriguing image
great imagination and creativety as already stated by Kal
Catherine_D16-Oct-2006 08:55
There you are Ai Li :) As always you added the nicest touch to this shot :) Ai Li the sequel!!! :) :)
Kal Khogali16-Oct-2006 06:54
Your imagination and creativity is inspirational Ai Li. I like the sense of confusion..."does the right hand, know what the left is doing?". A kind of unsureness, a lean against the wall for support. Only a year?...well, what matters is that it is work memorable enough to last a lifetime. By the way, I believe this gallery consitutes you most brilliant work. K
