connection

" To create space that establishes a connection between our lives and theirs.
A space through which to reveal themselves fully, to speak their minds, tell their stories, reach out to touch.
To dispel the story and fill the gaps, to create a window for the light that shines through the children.
To ask for support but not from pity rather from a concern for perfect children in an imperfect world.

A child ought to be seen whole, who he/she is now, not fragmented and cast aside as a mere object to either be ignored or pitied.
It is through their "childness" that we brought the gifts of wonder and magic, of play and creativity,
of nurturing and fearlessness. Of intuitive justice and purity. Of intelligence and courage. Of love... "

(Extracted from "If I were rain", a book about children in India, by Nanni Singh and Youthreach.
This picture of mine is a continuation from the earlier one. Both are specially dedicated to my dear friend, Ros,
thanking her for the wonderful book that touched my soul, enriched my mind and strengthened my love for children.)

Before I read your words this was what i saw. I saw a woman reaching for the child inside her, not letting it slip too far away yet always close enough when needed! Children our one of best things in this evil world we live in! They see all the innocence we'd all love to see in our real world!

Yvette :)

Hi AL, my problem is,i am really bad at writing comments, and strong images like this deserve some meaningful words like Phil´s.this gallery shows that a photo can be much more than just colours, tones and light.thanks for sharing.

this is a great shot... the addition to the gallery creates an interesting visual balance, and of course the choice of b&w strips away the non-essential elements of a shot - making the message all the more clear. it makes a difference when one shoots from the heart, as opposed to the brain, and you are definitely in the right track. well done, my friend and thank you for the lovely dedication. :)

You manage to take an idea and hone it down to it's simplest and most powerful graphic components, Ai Li. While this image speaks more of what you care about than who you are, by inference, you expose your compassion for others in a fresh and powerful manner. The subtle blur in the fingertips speaks of your anguish and frustration at not being able to do all you can for those less fortunate than you are. When you have finished this challenge, I challenge to take your next holiday in India, and speak of that compassion at first hand by expressing the essence of their lives with your gifted vision.

The hand reaching out..... a connection to those underpriviledged children roaming the streets with unfulfilled dreams.....a connection to their plight. A thought provoking image, Ai Li.

The third one in the gallery so far, and the third one that is of exhibition standard. Why not go for it?
