Test1

One important comment: On a 20D, the 135+2xTC "hunts like a hungry bear"! IMO it's not worth using a 2xTC with this lens (on the 20D) unless you're somehow opting to MF. It is extremely frustrating as the AF zips back and forth, stuttering quickly, in and out, trying to lock focus, even in super bright daylight and high contrast subjects. It does lock focus, every now and then, but it is hit and miss most of the time. It's excellent with a 1.4xTC. [Note TDP has almost identical results with the 135 and 2x http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=108&Camera=9&FLI=2&API=2&LensComp=108&CameraComp=9&FLIComp=2&APIComp=4 . Note how much it helps stopping down one.]

You have made an excellent choice in the 135L; really a marvelous lens. And yes, every lens will perform better with a 1.4x rather than a 2x TC. Stopping down (1-2 stops) with any lens+TC combo will also improve IQ. Using a 1.4x on the 135L will deliver excellent results when stopped down 1. The same goes for the 70200IS.

Thanks and it is me again. I am becoming a big fan of your tests and they are extremely useful. :)

I can see you are just beginning the test and I am eager to see more since I recently purchased EF 135 F2L over 70-200L IS. One question about the 135+2xTC vs. 200 1.4xTC. From my knowledge (not experience), most (if not all) lens behave a lot better with 1.4xTC than it does on 2xTC (we are not comparing the reach of course). Am I right? Have test 70-200L IS on 2xTC and do you see the similar big improvement 1 stop down and how about the AF then?

Another question, are you gonna compare 135+1.4xTC vs the long end (200mm) of 70-200mm? Like to see that also. Thanks.
