Bonus Test - Sigma 100-300 F4 EX DG HSM

Apr 2 2007: These results show 100% center crops of the Sigma 100-300 EX DG, Sigma 50-500 EX DG, and Canon 100-400 L IS. All tests done at 400mm-420mm f5.6 (wide open).

The 1-3 has very fast AF, and while adding a 1.4x TC to it only slightly slows it down, I did find that AF hunted a bit more with the TC. In this sense, the Bigma has better AF in that AF speed is quick and lacks any hunting/oscillating. The 1-3 will work with a 1.4x, but I think you will notice some AF "quirks" here and there.

Is AF speed comparable in this kind of tests? I'm interested how 1-3EX with TC 1.4 performs in AF speed terms against Bigma.

The Kenko Pro is an excellent TC. I doubt you would see any improvement over it. Take care.

Great test!
I wonder how much better the 100-300 would be with the Sigma 1.4 TC. It is supposed to be much better/matched.

Overall, nothing surprising. 100-300 did quite well considering it was being used with a tcon. Absolutely astounding lens without one though.
