Canon 50 F1.4 USM v. Canon 50 F1.8 MKII

Oct 21 2005: Brand new test between two of THE most popular primes.

COMMENTS: While the "thrifty fifty" is one heck of a lens at $75, its costlier and faster sibling is better in every conceivable way. In terms of optics (resolving power at wide apertures, contrast, edge performance, etc.), build quality, AF accuracy and noise (speed is similar), bokeh, and flare resistance -- in all these ways the f1.4 USM is better than the MKII.
