006 SNAKE SKIN III

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA

THIS TRANSPARENT SKIN OF A GARTER SNAKE IS A PERFECT NEGATIVE IMAGE OF THE SNAKE THAT INHABITED IT, SHOWING EVERY SCALE AND ANY MARKS OR INJURIES COLLECTED BETWEEN SHEDINGS.
NEW SKIN FORMS UNDER THE OLD, THEN THE OLD SKIN SPLITS AT THE HEAD AND THE SNAKE WORKS OUT OF IT.
THE WHOLE PROCESS IS LIKE ROLLING OFF A LONG STOCKING, WHERE THE SHED SKIN IN TURNED INSIDE OUT, AND THE SNAKE IS LEFT CLEAR-EYED, PRISTINE AND ABLE TO GROW.

Canon EOS D60 ,CANON 28-135mm f3.5-f5.6 IS
1/90s f/16.0 at 135.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original
