The Sierra Nevada runs almost 400 miles, with low foothills on the west, facing the great Central Valley and a breath taking two vertical mile drop to the Owens Valley to the east. Legendary deep snows over the range shield the eastern high desert mountains and valleys. Only occupied by western civilization for 150 years, there is much wildness beyond the pavement.
