We started cubbing extra early this season due to all the deer seasons that occur later. The masters had waived hunt coats in favor of polos for the whole month of September but it was rather cool starting out and we probably could have worn hunt coats. The sky was cloudy so I was happy not to have to wear a coat that could get wet. Temperature ranged from 57 to 65 deg. F. Wind was calm but basically from the west. The Barometric pressure was falling. There were storms moving to the North of us.

We started out heading to the Northwest in a trail up through the woods. We made a loop in the woods and came out along the lake. We crossed the dam and dropped below the dam and worked the area below the dam. Things looked pretty blank. We then went up into a field at the south end of the territory. Hounds were working the woods in front of us. They started speaking….. a deer jumped out right in front of Eleanor. She didn’t move, which surprised me. Hounds weren’t on it. Soon a coyote burst out of the covert and crossed the field in front of us. A few hounds followed shortly thereafter. We waited. I wondered why Eleanor was still waiting. Then another coyote came out and ran across the field. Hounds were not too far behind. Then we got moving. Since there were no trails through those woods, we doubled back and went down the hill and then back below the lake. We jumped a few coops along the way. Hounds ran the coyotes across hwy WW into an area we could not go. Still, it was a great day and we had a great view of the quarry. All hounds were recovered.
