I was actually selling one of my lenses.. It was supposed to be all cash, but then the person could only offer so much cash, so they offered cash + the 100 L. I was put on the spot, and I was also late to meeting friends for dinner, so I went with my gut feeling that I SHOULD just do it! I didn't even have a chance to check out the current going rate.. I looked for about 10 seconds, but nothing thorough (ie a good 12 hours of researching and re-researching). Also, since I hadn't been camera-oriented for so long, I wasn't in my right mind, and I guess I didn't fully inspect the lens.. I threw it on my camera, focused on a billion different things, took a bunch of pictures, checked them out, and they looked awesome! "Awesome, I'll take it!" What on earth..? I don't do that!! That's like normal-people-lens-buying..

Then, the next day, when I actually had a chance to check the lens out, I saw this weird red/pink blob in the lens, maybe about 1 or 2 elements in from the front of the lens... and my heart sank. And the stress built up!!! "Did this just appear?? Did I REALLY not see this? Did I even look at the lens physically?? Where was my head yesterday??? OH MY HECK WHAT HAVE I DONE???" (On further inspection, this poor lens has obviously been well used, haha..)

But, after a couple hours (or days..) of that, my mind started settling back down, and, well, fortunately that red blob is toward the bottom of the lens.. It's probably not even in the light-path of what hits the sensor, I told myself! Especially not on a crop sensor, which were the only cameras I had at the time. I started taking pictures with it, constantly telling myself that! And oh man, the lens just rocked! It was exactly the lens I had needed to get excited for photography again, haha. And I KNOW if I had seen that red blob, I never would have taken the trade, and I probably never would have bought the lens elsewhere afterward, which means I would have gotten further out of photography!

So right, a lapse in my anal camera gear perfectionism turned out to give me back my hobby! Or at least the actual photography part of my hobby..

And lucky for me, this blob happens to be in a macro lens, so I got a picture of the blob-in-the-lens using the lens-with-the-blob (and a lovely mirror). You can see it's nicely arranged toward the bottom of the lens, and it's pretty small, and the picture is fairly boring, so I had to add a (f)artistic picture to spice things up, too..

Aaaand, of course, even at 1:1 macro, that blob isn't very interesting.. It's not really all that big.. maybe 2 or 3mm across.. so I obviously needed a "better" picture of it!

Which leads me to the next shots.
