Really, really interested in this. Where can I read more about your work on this? And is it designed to only work with a Pentax? I already have a thousand ideas where this can be applied.

I'm curious, is this actually able to produce any sort of images? I like how you put up an image of the Pentax interface, too, albeit from a more modern camera with control dials.

The photo is, of course, my trusted Pentax 645N medium format camera with my new 40 megapixel digital insert. Long did 645 owners await Pentax’s digital insert only to be disappointed with their derisory offering of the 40 mp 645D. Backward compatibility is a cornerstone of Pentax marketing and we were unwilling to have to purchase a new camera just for the sake of converting medium format film to 40 megapixel technology.

Single handedly, I have addressed this gap in the market and produced a prototype 40 megapixel insert for the 645N. it has been designated the acronym L1020. Conversion could not be simpler, simply remove the redundant 120 film insert, place four 2.4mm diameter dots of bluetac on each corner of the camera back and affix the digital insert. I am developing a Velcro alternative fixing method for those who prefer the rip-off experience. For portraiture, simply rotate the insert 90 degrees and affix – no need to remove from stand or turn the camera on end which can be awkward.

The insert includes wi-fi for instant uploading of photographs, gps for location information, and offers music while you work. Initial tests have been highly successful with a pleasing vignetting effect. This can also be appreciated by those who, like myself, enjoy the process of photography where it reveals something of the interior of the camera itself – surely a unique selling feature! For added convenience, the databack itself can be detatched and used as a point and suit shirt pocketable camera, although geeks are advised to never be seen doing this. A cunning ploy is to pretend it is a telephone while discretely photographing subjects – ha!

Bokehliciousness: an obvious candidate here firstly from the photograph but more interestingly for the interior space within the 645N (a.k.a. Vignetting – see above)

Largest Number of Accesories Between the Lens and the Camera. The digital insert sports it’s own Zeiss 2.2 lens, therefore between it and the smc 645-FA 645 120mm F4 Macro lens is the 645N camera, A 645 1.4X and A 645 2X convertors, and the three piece 645 Auto Extension Tube-A Set. Strictly speaking this is being economical with the truth because I don’t own convetors and extensions for the 645 but some day I will. In any event, I am sure you will agree that a adding a medium format camera between the digital insert ‘camera’ and the smc 645-FA 645 120mm F4 Macro lens is a rare achievement.

Hors catégorie: The most obvious choice; clearly innovation is valued and you will appreciate that by appropriating this technology and satisfying the long held desire for a 40 mp digital insert on the venerable Pentax 645N, this the correct choice of category for the prize which must rightfully be mine.

It has been a pleasure to participate in this esteemed competiton – the first time I have taken photographic competitions with the seriousness they merit.
