This photo of sand was taken with a 1945 Kodak Medalist II (6x9 format) using Fuji Velvia (ISO 50). If I recall, I shot it at f/5.6 and 1/500 s. The Kodak Medalist II (coincidentally, a camera without movie mode) uses 620 roll film, but I had this one modified to shoot 120 roll film, which is no easy feat considering that the body is stainless steel and needs to be "carved" to make room for the larger spool of 120.

Despite being handheld, modestly stopped down, and the subject not parallel to the film plane, the bottom two corners (the ones in focus) are sharp enough to discern every individual grain of sand. The slide was scanned at 4000 dpi, but I resized it to 2000 dpi so that the file size wouldn't be enormous. This results in a 28 megapixel image with quite a bit of resolution.
